The Group Study Rooms are provided for collaborative study for the use of Library patrons with a valid ID.

General Information

User Responsibility:

  • Users are responsible for their personal property at all times.
  • Users must comply with all HCL policies.
  • Users must clean the room leaving it in its original condition, and close and lock the door.
  • No furniture or equipment should be removed from the room. Any problems pertaining to its furniture or equipment should be reported to the Circulation Desk staff immediately.
  • The patron to whom the room is charged is responsible for the replacement cost of any damaged or missing keys, equipment, furniture, etc.

  What defines a group?

A group is defined as two to eight students.

  May the 3rd Floor Group Study Room be used for holding classes or meetings?

No. The 3rd Floor Group Study Room is only to be used for group study.

  What equipment is in the 3rd Floor Group Study Room?

A whiteboard with markers, a television, and a computer with a wireless mouse and keyboard.

  How many people will the 3rd Floor Group Study Room accommodate?

The room will accommodate up to 8 people.

  Do I have to make a reservation to use the 3rd Floor Group Study Room?

Reservations are required. Room reservations may be made no more than one week in advance. Reservations may be made by phone to the Circulation Desk (256-782-5758); in person at the Circulation Desk; or by using the online Group Study Room Request Form.

  How many hours can I reserve the 3rd Floor Group Study Room?

Reservations are for 2 hours.

  May I extend my 3rd Floor Group Study Room reservation time?

Yes. The reservation may be extended if another group has not requested the 3rd Floor Group Study Room. Renewals may be made in person at the Circulation Desk in the Lobby.

  May I renew the 3rd Floor Group Study Room reservation under another person’s name?

No. The room must be renewed by the person who first made the reservation.

  May I reserve the 3rd Floor Group Study Room for use every day of the week?

No. Groups may only use the 3rd Floor Group Study Room for one day per week. Each member of the group must be listed on the reservation form. The Library reserves the right to deny the room to groups that use it excessively.

  I’ve made a reservation for the 3rd Floor Group Study Room. What do I need to do when I come to the Library?

Bring your valid JSU ID to the Library’s Circulation Desk in order to check out the 3rd Floor Group Study Room key. Your JSU ID will be held while the group is in the 3rd Floor Group Study Room. Upon returning the key, a Library staff member will verify the room’s inventory with a checklist. If it is satisfactory, the patron’s JSU ID will be returned and the account released from the reservation.

  I’m going to be late for my reservation. What do I do?

A group that is more than 15 minutes late forfeits the reservation.

  Are there any late fees if the 3rd Floor Group Study Room key is returned late?

Late fines are $0.20 per minute and $10.00 per hour. The maximum fine is $200.00. There is a grace period of 10 minutes.
