LibGuides: An Introduction and How-To Guide: Creating and Editing Pages

An introduction to the LibGuides tool with How-To guides and instructions for library faculty on setting up their own LibGuides.

How do I create a page?

Creating Pages
Creating a page is easy — simply select "Add/Reuse Page" under the "ADD/EDIT PAGES" tab in your tool bar:

You’ll be provided with two options: create new page or reuse existing page. 9 times out of 10, there is absolutely no reason to create a new page — you can always use existing pages as a template and modify them accordingly, so you don’t have to create things from scratch. You can use either pages you’ve created for this or other LibGuides, pages others at JSU have created, or pages you find out in the LibGuides community. This goes for page elements as well.

BUT...if the page you’re reusing is from the LibGuides community, ALWAYS obtain permission from the page’s creator BEFORE you publish a page to our LibGuides.
AND...ALWAYS check every element of the page, including all hyperlinks, to make sure you've made all necessary changes (ie, LibGuides from other universities may have their proxy in the URLs, etc.)

Creating a Copy Versus Linking

If you do not check the "create a copy" box, then whatever page or element you’ve reused is tied to its original. If the original creator modifies that page or element, those changes automatically filter down to yours. If you want the page or element to stay exactly as you have created it unless you modify it yourself, then check the “create a copy” box.

Editing page information & reordering pages

Editing Page Information
If you wish to change the title of a page, simply select "Change Page Info" from the "ADD/EDIT PAGES" tab in your tool bar.

Re-ordering Pages
If you wish to move pages around in your guide (change the heirarchy and/or reorder your pages), this can also be found under the "ADD/EDIT PAGES" tab. Simply select the pages you wish to reorder (hover over the page name until a four directional arrow appears), click, drag and drop them into the order you wish, then save.
