Open Educational Resources (OER)

OERs Defined

Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning and research materials in any medium – digital or otherwise – that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that permits no-cost access, use, adaptation, and redistribution by others with no or limited restrictions.

Common Types of OERs

Open Textbooks

An open textbook is a textbook offered online by its author(s) under an open license (such as Creative Commons). This license separates open textbooks from traditional textbooks by allowing users to read online, download, or print the book at no additional cost.
