Welcome

Welcome to Jacksonville State University's Houston Cole Library! Named for President Emeritus Dr. Houston Cole, the Houston Cole Library was built in 1972. The facility is a thirteen-story building divided into eight micro-libraries. Floors two through seven and nine through ten are divided into public subject areas and are managed by subject specialist librarians. Each public service librarian is responsible for collection maintenance and development, supervision of student employees, liaison activities, and instruction. The Library is staffed with 15 professional and 18 para-professional employees.

The mission of Houston Cole Library is to provide information services and resources to support the scholarly and informational needs of the University community. In doing so, the library strives to reflect the curriculum first, with secondary emphasis on faculty research and statewide resource sharing. The Library's collection consists of more than 600,000 titles. Our online card catalog will allow you to search the collections held at our Library. Additionally, the catalogs of other major Alabama academic libraries are available for online searching. The numerous databases we subscribe to will allow you online access to magazines, newspapers and journal citations and articles. In addition to numerous public computer workstations, students have access to a group study room and a computer lab. Other services within the Library are inter-library loan, self-service photocopying, conference rooms, and AV services.

We are here to assist you with your research and information needs. You can contact our librarians via virtual chat, phone, email, text, and/or in person. Just click on Ask Us to connect with our librarians or submit a question. We hope you find our services useful. We invite you to visit the library often (in both its physical and virtual locations) and to enjoy the wealth of resources and information available through our services
