This course provides an introduction to the long, contentious political, cultural, and economic history of U.S.-Latin American relations. In this course, students will address a host of important questions. What interests and objectives have shaped Latin American Policies towards the United States? How have actions of the U.S. affected Latin America's development? How have non-governmental actors in both the U.S. and Latin America influenced this relationship? This class covers from the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 to the modern day with a focus on the period between the Spanish-American War to the present.
